Reigning Mr. Davao titlist Arnold Quijada defends his title in the coming 2003 Mr. Davao Bodybuilding competition on March 9 at the Victoria Plaza. Quijada, last year’s lightweight and over-all champion, will meet face to face with two-time past Mr. Davao winner Sammy Gulle. Both were considered tough foes to contend with in the previous competitions but bowed to former champion, the late Rey Sinday.
“This will be a great event as the city’s top bodybuilders show off their forms,” said Ben Sur, Bodybuilders Federation of the Philippines vice-president for Mindanao.
The competition will have the lightweight, bantamweight and heavyweight categories. Registration is pegged at P100 per entry.
“We will have a registration fee this time since the City Government only shouldered the cash prizes for the winners. The registration fee will be for the medals and other prizes which will be given to the winners in the awarding rites,” Sur added.
Close to 50 participants are expected to join the activity which is also a preparation for the third Mindanao Friendship Games in Mati, Davao Oriental.
It is sponsored by the City Government of Davao through the Sports Development Division office.
