THE South African Natural Bodybuilders Association has invited their Namibian counterparts to compete at their national championships.

Hence the bodybuilders who are interested to flex their muscles at Paarl Town Hall, Cape Town on October 7 and 8 should register their interest with the Namibia Natural Bodybuilding Union before the end of September 5.

However, potential competitors will need to be thoroughly assessed by the union and should they meet the SANBA's requirements, only can they be accommodated at the competition.

Last year Atushe Nampweya won the Nucleus Health and Fitness Centre Bodybuilding Championships in Windhoek, the only event of note to have taken place in the country in recent times.

Six other contestants, including second placed Jose Gaspan and David Nuuyuni in third, also took part in the inaugural event.

"Currently bodybuilding is struggling in Namibia," said Venancius Rukero, the NNBU interim chairman.

"We spoke to the (Namibia) Sport Commission and they said it would be good for our bodybuilders to take part," he added.

It will cost each participant is N$3 200 to enter the contest The amount includes a registration fee, administrative fee, accommodation, transport and meals.

"The Sport Commission also encouraged us to start up a new body. We are planning to host our own events soon."
