Two suburban Philadelphia bodybuilders were charged this afternoon in connection with illegally importing and distributing steroids, authorities said.
Frank Peters, of Ambler, and Brian Chamberlain, of West Chester were accused of ordering performance enhancing drugs over the Internet from China, Hungary, and Pakistan. The men, who operated separately, allegedly distributed them in Chester and Montgomery Counties. They were snared in an ongoing state investigation into steroid trafficking dubbed Operation Roid Runner.
A grand jury found that between February 2009 and February 2010, Peters wired $8,500 to overseas steroid suppliers. Chamberlain wired almost $10,000. Peters, 34, was charged with conspiracy and eight drug-related counts. Chamberlain, 35, was charged with possession and two counts of delivery of a controlled substance. Peters' girlfriend, Angela Girondo, 50, who was also charged with drug counts, allegedly helped distribute the steroids throughout Chester County, according to the Attorney General's office.
Peters, a personal trainer, placed 2nd in the 2008 NPC Lehigh Valley Bodybuilding & Figure Contest, according to Bodybuilding.com.
Chamberlain, according to his website, won the IFBB North American Bodybuilding Championships in 2004 and writes for Muscle Mag International. He works as a personal trainer at Gold's Gym in Thorndale.
