HYDERABAD: The ambience was perfect. So was the display of muscle power from some of the healthiest bodies from across the country in the 46th senior national bodybuilding championship at Hanuman Vyayamshala on Sunday.
Manohar Aich and Premchand Dogra - both former winners of `Mr.Universe' titles - were the centre of attraction.
How exactly did Manohar feel? "It is a great sight to see such a big event. There is much tougher competition now because of the awareness about the sport," says the 94-year-old gentleman, whose agility could have put to shame some of the youngsters hanging around. "It is always a pleasant sight to witness these competitions. Techniques and aspirations are fast changing in this intense world of competition," says Aich, whose day is incomplete without a stint at the gym, which he manages. "It is a pity to see so much of talent considering the lack of support from the Government for the sport," he bemoans. Nodding in approval is Premchand Dogra, another illustrious name in the history of Indian bodybuilding. " We should appreciate the way Telangana Bodybuilding Association has organised this in such a grand manner," were his compliments. The huge turnout was a fair indication of the popularity of the sport in the city. |
