BODYBUILDER Antonio Oliveira has gained his first contest victory.
Antonio Oliveira received a first-place medal in the amateur class of the Anglian bodybuilding championships at Great Yarmouth's Marine Centre just months after beginning his career as a bodybuilder.
The 33-year-old, of Scotter Walk, Corby, gained the accolade ahead of the National Amateur Bodybuilding Association Mr Great Britain finals in Southport.
His wife Vera said: "He did very well to gain first place.
"It's all really good experience and there were so many people there watching and cheering him on.
"It also helps him get to know all the other entrants taking part and he is
becoming very popular.
"He works very hard and he really deserves to be successful."
Antonio began bodybuilding last year, seven years after moving to Corby from Portugal. He is supported in his competitions by his children, aged five and seven.
He also takes advice from Corby bodybuilder Micky McKay, of Oxford Road, who is well-known on the local amateur circuit.
The pair attend the same gym.
Antonio said: "I used to do boxing but then I decided I wanted to do bodybuilding, so I went to the gym and found I was quite good at it.
"It's difficult for my wife because I now have to eat a lot of different things to her, like a lot of vegetables and chicken. But she's great, really supportive, despite the stress."
Antonio works out an average of four times a week, which increases at competition times.
His ultimate aim is to become one of the nation's best bodybuilders.
