SINGAPORE: Singapore bodybuilders clinched two gold medals at the Busan Asian Games four years ago and are a force to be reckoned in in the region.

8 bodybuilders were selected for the Games, but on Monday, two of them (Adrain Tan and Jason Foo) withdrew from the squad, citing nagging injuries which have prevented them from training adequately for the competition.

However, the stakes in Doha will be much higher, as the fight will be tougher with more competitors.

There will also be more contestants from the Middle East, which is another set-back for the Singaporeans.

"We started our preparations last year, sending two athletes to Canada. For this year, we decided to try European countries, so we went to Belgium for a 10-day training stint, to prepare both physically and mentally. On the trip there, we had a consultant who actually competed in the US pro circuit. He was able to help the boys deduce some of the training methods and also the dieting routine. The boys will pick it up from there and modify accordingly," said Ivan Ho, Team Manager.
