BAGUIO City became the country's bodybuilding champion when it grabbed the most number of medals during the Mr. Philippines muscle war in Greenhills, San Juan, last Saturday evening.
The city's six member-team brought home a gold and six silvers, an output unmatched by more than 15 cities and municipalities that took a stab in the country's biggest annual muscle show organized by the Philippine Bodybuilding Federation (PBBF).
Top honors this time goes to Baguio Health Club's Fernando Faroden who ruled the flyweight class to become Mr. Philippines in his division after displaying awesome body mass and muscle cuts.
Also shining is Dr. Shiela Baniqued of Pines City Doctor Hospital doctor who stunned the organizers with her splendid performance in winning the silver in the women's class.
Debuting for the national crown tiff, Baniqued outclassed other veteran hopefuls from Manila's best fitness gyms with her fantastic legs and abdominal muscles.
The rest of the team also made waves by placing second and winning their respective silver medals.
Danny Reyes of the Baguio Fitness Gym Horizon was Faroden's second in the flyweight class while Alfredo Coronel of Baguio Fitness Horizon took a sensational loss to take the silver in the middleweight class.
SPO1 Moody Carrera of the CIDG-CAR made an impressive showing in the lightweight category while Raymund Elke proved his own worth in the middleweight class.
Carrera, Elke, and Baniqued all train at the Stallion Fitness Gym.
Hopes were pinned on come-backing Alfredo Cornel, 36, the country's lightweight king from 1994-1997, to make it two golds in a row in the lightweight battle.
But despite emerging with a vastly improved physique, Cornel, fresh from a year's stint at the Platinum Health Club in Kuwait, was edged by the more massive but less proportional Albert Cuesta of Quezon City.
