Beef for Christmas?Date: 22.12.2006 Posted by: Anabolic Info Team Bahamas
It's gonna be a holiday feast, that will not come on a plate.
And the main course will be far from turkey or ham. No, the main dish will consist of mostly beef.
There may not be a better way to celebrate the Christmas holiday than for female bodybuilding fans to feast their eyes on Bahamian pro bodybuilder, Joel "Dia-mond Back" Stubbs.
And for the male bodybuilding fans, they may not be able to get enough of American female bodybuilder Debi Laszewski, who moved Grand Bahamian fans when she was here in June at the Grand Bahama Champ-ionships.
Both pro bodybuilders will be in town and on stage at the Hilton Outten Conven-tion Centre this Friday, beginning at 7:30 p.m. in the first annual Christmas Body-building Show.
Joel and Debi will highlight the show, along with other local bodybuilders and figure athletes.
"Joel is much bigger today than he was when he was here in June, so Bahamian fans will be in for a treat when he steps on stage come December 22," said Baldwin Darling, president of the Grand Bahama Bodybuild-ing and Fitness Association.
"Joel is quickly becoming popular on the international bodybuilding scene, having appeared in a number of top-notch international bodybuilding magazines.
"So, having Joel come here to appear in this show means a lot."
The Christmas Body-building show will not be a competitive show, where athletes will be in a posedown battles, or a battle to win their respective divisions.
Instead, it will be a show where the featured athletes will get a chance to strut their stuff on a more extensive basis, while interacting with the audience.
It will also give other bodybuilders, who may be used to just competing, to sit back and see how the pros do it.
Joel says that he's excited about tonight's show and noted that bodybuilding fans could be in for a real Christmas treat.
"I know it's gonna be a lot of fun and I think that it's a great idea putting on this show," said Joel, in an interview with The Freeport News, when he and Debi arrived in Grand Bahama yesterday morning.
"I want to give the fans a much better showing and get more interactive with the crowd. A lot of the ladies will get a chance to touch the muscles and see if they're real."
Based on the reaction Joel received in June, there will be lots of screaming and touching at tonight's show.
Back then, a lot of people couldn't believe that Joel was actually that big and wanted to get up close to prove it to themselves.
This time, Joel is much bigger and more ripped than he was in June, so that in itself will be worth the cost for tonight's show.
Debi Laszewski also intends to get more personal with the audience at tonight's show.
Debi, who recently turned pro, says Bahamian fans will get to see an extended version of her routine which she performed while here in June.
"It was great the way I was accepted here and I was more than excited when Baldwin asked if I would be able to come back," said Debi.
This is Debi's first invitational on stage since turning pro, so Bahamians are getting to see a much more refined and stronger looking Debi on stage.
"My shape and figure is a bit better this time around than it was the last time I was here, because I've made some improvements," Debi added.
"Fans here will see the body that helped me to win my pro card, so that's no small thing.
"It's gonna be a good performance."
The idea for the Christmas Bodybuilding variety show came about when Baldwin Darling and Maurice Hall, of Total Body Fitness Centre, got together to discuss a possible show to close out the year.
"This event is a Godsend by Total Body Fitness centre, because it will allow bodybuilding fans another opportunity to see some great bodybuilders and fitness athletes on stage," said Maurice Hall.
Recently added to the line up for tonight's show will be two outstanding local performers in the persons of Dano Rolle and Racquel Oliver.
"I thought that it would be good to have sort of an exhibition with some top bodybuilders, and I felt that this kind of show was a great idea," said Baldwin Darling, president of the Grand Bahama Bodybuilding Association.
"We want to keep the sport of bodybuilding alive in Grand Bahama and motivate other bodybuilders to go into the new year, renewed and prepared to compete."
Tickets for the show will be on sale at Total Body Fitness Centre or at the door of the Hilton Outten Convention Centre.
