Bob Jackson has been cutting hair for more than 30 years. He has quite a reputation among the other hair stylists in the building.
Theresa Bradley has a chair in the same building and she told Channel Six News, "Mr. Bob is a legend, he cuts hair like a masterpiece, I tell him that all the time."
But Theresa wasn’t aware of what “Mr. Bob” does in his spare time and Bob estimates only about five percent of his customers know about his recent foray into bodybuilding.
Jackson is 59 years old and working out is nothing new. He’s also run several marathons. But bodybuilding didn’t cross his mind until his oldest son Matthew, who is a bodybuilder, talked his Dad into giving it a try.
Matthew said, “what I had to do was get his diet changed so he eats right, that’s the lifestyle change he had to make.”
“It’s a huge lifestyle change,” Bob said. “Because I like my sweet rolls and bacon and things like that.”
His diet for three months leading up to his initial competition consisted of protein, more protein and vegetables. No sugar, no starch and lots and lots of water.
Bob said, “I would wake up in the morning and think oh my gosh, I have to eat fish and chicken and oatmeal again today!.”
The result after the diet change and heavy lifting: three trophies in his first competition at the age of 59.
Next May, he will be competing again and the real payoff for Bob is the fact his sons Matthew and Nathan will also be entered.
“There aren’t too many that get to do that,” Jackson said, “and to have that opportunity to compete with my boys is what keeps me going.”
