Body building coming to AHSDate: 04.07.2007 Posted by: Anabolic Info Team United States
Azle bodybuilder Trey Shearer looks at the competition not only as a healthy outlet but as “a ministry.”
“I’m blessed,” he said. “It’s a passion in my life.”
But don’t look for Shearer on stage at the Lone Star State Natural Championships at the AHS auditorium July 7.
Instead, he will be working the event to help competitors coming not only from other states but locally, including Azle. “I’m going to do what it takes to take care of the athletes.”
For many, the American Bodybuilding Association (ABA) event will be their first, Shearer said.
All competitors are drug-free, he said. “It’s strictly controlled. We want to show kids that they can alter their bodies and be competitive; they can have the body they want without drugs.”
Every athlete will undergo a urine test before things begin. Any positive tests not only ban the bodybuilder from the event but from the ABA for life.
“We want to keep it pure, like the old days,” Shearer said.
The competition begins at noon as groups of ten pose – before judges – with each allotted 60 seconds for a personalized routine. “That’s when most of the action happens,” Shearer said.
At 6 p.m., all athletes hit the stage for a mandatory set of flexes. Next, the top three builders are chosen in short, medium, and tall classes.
That trio then competes for the top prize, Most Muscular. The ultimate winner will take home a broad sword.
The Azle event is a pro qualifier on the road to Natural Mr. Universe.
