Bodybuilders fine-tune preparations for CACDate: 01.09.2006 Posted by: Anabolic Info Team Antigua and Barbuda
Seven of Antigua’s top bodybuilders are currently fine-tuning their preparations for this month’s Central American & Caribbean (CAC) Bodybuilding Competition in Jamaica.
This is according to President of the Antigua & Barbuda Bodybuilding & Weightlifting Federation, Errol Williams, who said that the seven athletes are in top shape and are looking towards the 29-30 Sept event.
Included in the seven-member Antigua team are:reigning Mr. Antigua and Eastern Caribbean champion Steve Williams, reigning Women’s Champion Beverly Percival, Heavyweight Champion Ollyn Martin, Middle-weight Champion and Lightweight Champion Frederick Prosper along with Junior Champion Trevis Baynes. Figure Class Champion Safiya Jardine is also included in the squad.
But according to Williams, the bodybuilders are doing well and should have no problems leading into the two-day competition.
“We still have a month of preparation to go but the bodybuilders are in top shape – as a matter of a fact, they are in much better shape than they were during the nationals and the Eastern Caribbean earlier this year,” Williams said.
“They are just mainly working on maintaining their size and quality and will soon start their final phase which will be to lose as much body fat as possible,” he added.
The former bodybuilder, however, went on to add that the Federation is still awaiting word where sponsorship is concerned as it would take some $14,000, to send the team to the event.
“We are still awaiting word on some sponsorship as it would run us about $14,000 to take the team to Jamaica. So far we have raised about $2,500 but regardless of the situation the team will attend this championship,” the president told the SUN.
Williams, enjoyed double victory at the recently held Eastern Caribbean championships by capturing both the light-heavy and overall men’s titles while Martin was victorious in the heavyweight category. Jardine, walked away with top honours in her division while reigning national women’s champion, Beverly Percival, was second in the women’s open class.
A number of the athletes would also be attending the CAC for the very first time and would be coming up against some of the region’s top athletes as they seek to establish themselves amongst the world’s best. |
