Bodybuilding elections to be held this monthDate: 12.01.2007

The bodybuilding fraternity in Antigua is gearing up for its general elections which are slated for 27 Jan. This is according to President of the Antigua & Barbuda Bodybuilding & Weightlifting Federation, Errol Williams, who said that he will be defending his post at the upcoming polls.
“As of now I really don’t know of any challengers for the position of president but I will be defending my post. I am looking forward to the opportunity to encourage more people to come into the sport and to take the discipline to yet another level,” Williams said.
“We are trying to encourage people from outside of the bodybuilding arena to run for some of the positions as well because we want to free up the athletes so that that can focus on their training because it is very difficult having to be in the gyms training and still have to deal with executive matters,” he added.
Although a set venue has not been identified for the holding of the elections, Williams was certain that the event will come off on the said date. Sonia Alred currently holds the post of Vice-President while National champions Beverly Percival is the Federation’s secretary. Dwayne Edwards currently holds the treasurer title with Ollyn Martin acting as his assistant.
Apart from the upcoming elections, Williams said that the Federation has moved to put plans in place for the hosting of its National Bodybuilding show which is slated for the end of June.
According to the president, the bodybuilders are already in the gyms and have shown vast improvements in comparison to where they were at this very juncture last year.
“The guys have already begun hitting the gyms and from what I have seen so far it is a vast improvement on last year. The national championship is coming up at the end of June and everyone is working hard – hopefully we will have some more women competing this year and we are working on that as well,” he said.
Veteran Steve Williams muscled out the rest of the competition in last year’s nationals before moving on to do well in a number of other regional competitions including the Central American & Caribbean Championships and the OECS Bodybuilding Competition.
