DOHA: Bodybuilding will likely not be included in the next Asian Games but will instead feature in the inaugural Asian Beach Games to be held in Bali in 2008, the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) said yesterday.

OCA director general Husain Al Musallam said the number of sports in the next Games in Guangzhou in 2010 would be reduced due to the growing popularity of Asian indoor competitions and the introduction of the Beach Games.

"The overall size of the Asian Games will be reduced due to the Indoor and Beach Games," Musallam said, adding that there had been no objections raised to the idea of shifting bodybuilding to the Beach Games.

The region's first Beach Games will be held on the Indonesian island in October 2008 and will feature 10 other sports: marathon swimming, wind surfing, jetski, beach handball, dragon boat, surfing, parasailing, beach soccer, beach volleyball and triathlon.

In this Asian Games here, bodybuilding saw 106 men from 27 countries compete for the eight gold medals up for grabs.

During the two days of competition, athletes in eight weight categories are judged on seven mandatory poses. All are judged on body symmetry and proportion, muscle definition and general masculinity.

The sport was rocked, however, by one doping case.

Iraqi athlete Saad Faeaz was caught with 134 ampules of nandrolone, an anabolic steroid which helps build muscle bulk, on his arrival at Doha airport.
