Bodybuilders: Think Arnold Schwarzenegger in his heyday. They're massively muscled and train to bulk up, often putting on 20 or 30 or more pounds.
Weightlifters: Also may be massive. These are the people who do the lifting style seen in competition every four years in the Olympics -- the "snatch" and the "clean and jerk." Train for maximum strength.
Powerlifters: Competitive weightlifters. They do three lifts -- the squat, the bench press and the dead lift. Nancy Goldstein won her world title with her bench press -- lying on her weight bench, feet on the floor, lifting a bar with weights attached on the ends, slowly lowering the weight to her chest, pausing at least a second, pressing the bar back up to arms' length and returning the bar to the rack. She lifted 89 pounds.
