Staff photo by Eric MacKenzie...Dawne Braden has been a regular fixture at the Portage Fitness Co-op the past three months while preparing for her first-ever bodybuilding competition, going next weekend in Winnipeg.
Dawne Braden has been described by some members at the Portage Fitness Co-op as the gym's "poster child".
The 42-year-old mother of three has been a regular at the gym for the past five years, but has made a second home out of the place lately, taking the last three months to prepare herself for next week's Mercedes-Benz Winnipeg Novice Bodybuilding Championship.
Braden will be stepping on to the stage for her very first bodybuilding competition March 27 at the Pantages Playhouse Theatre, competing in the medium-tall and masters (age 35+) categories.
"It's always been a dream — flipping through the Oxygen magazines, looking, thinking, wishing," she said Thursday. "I've always been a gym rat, as I call myself. I've had many people come up to me over the years asking, 'What are you training for? Are you prepping for something?'. It's finally time to just spread my wings and go for it. It's never too late."
