Shannon Clark suffered an injury last year that no bodybuilder wants to endure.
Clark tore his right bicep while training, and doctors advised him to give up the sport. But Clark just couldn't let it go, and instead he worked his way back.
"They told me it'd be [at least] six months, but I recuperated it in four," Clark said.
A year later, Clark's comeback features another win in a bodybuilding event. Last weekend, the Woodville bodybuilder won the junior light heavyweight division at the "Clash at the Capstone" in Tuscaloosa.
"I dieted for 14 weeks and trained too," said Clark, who trains at Kramer's Gym in Scottsboro. "I thank my family and Kramer [Bergman] for their support."
Clark is a veteran when it comes to bodybuilding competitions, having competed in "one or two" a year since 2003. He began weightlifting some 20 years ago, he said.
His goal for next year is to win the overall championship at the 2011 "Clash at the Capstone."
Bergman won't be surprised if that happens.
"He's worked really hard for many years and deserves every award he gets," Bergman said. "He's one of [the gym's] best members."
