Develop bodybuilding into a winsome sport

Kumasi, Sept. 19, GNA - A bodybuilding expert, Moses Yaw Yeboah, has called on the National Sports Council (NSC) to mobilize enough resources towards the sustainable development of bodybuilding in the country.
Yeboah said when the sport was fully developed it can be used not only as a tool to improve the health status of the people but would also create employment for the youth for participate in bodybuilding-related competitions to win laurels for the nation.
The body-building expert was briefing the GNA Sports in Kumasi on an "Operation Conquer Africa and Beyond" project launched for Kofi Salia, the reigning Ghanaian super heavyweight bodybuilding champion.
Yeboah said that the project which was under the patronage of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, was meant to solicit for funds for the champion as he endeavours to win more international championships.
The expert who is the manager of the champion, decried the near neglect of bodybuilding by policy-makers, explaining that majority of the muscled youth who channel their energies towards unproductive ventures could be given professional training in bodybuilding for their own benefit and the country.
Yeboah urged corporate bodies to be supportive of the project by donating in cash and kind to ensure its success.
He disclosed that Salia is scheduled to participate in the Yorton Cup pro-World Bodybuilding Championship in Washington DC on October 23, an event being organised by the International Fitness and Physique Association (IFPA).
The event will attract about 150 competitors from around the world.
Salia is reputed to have won the Mr Ghana contest in 2008, 2009 and 2010 and also won the Mr West Africa in 2008 and also emerged as the first runner-up in the Mr Africa contest in 2009.
