Gophers golfers edge Mercer at DeBary

The University of Minnesota women's golf team won the DeBary Intercollegiate championship by one shot over second-place Mercer at the DeBary Country Club in DeBary, Fla.
The Gophers shot a 17-over-par 305 Monday and finished the two-day event with a 27-over 603 total, and Mercer turned in a team score of 302 to finish at 604.
Young Na Lee led the Gophers with a 1-over 73 in the second round to finish in a tie for fourth at 4-over 148. Leslie Grabeman tied for 10th at 151, Christine Herzog tied for 13th at 152, and Sydney Liles gave the Gophers four golfers in the top 15 with a 153. Kelli Burns tied for 38th with a 160.
Playing as an individual, Anne Martin tied for seventh at 150.
Gophers update: The Gophers volleyball team (16-6, 10-2 Big Ten Conference) remained at No. 12 in the CSTV/AVCA poll after going 1-1 last week with a three-game victory over Ohio State and five-game loss to Penn State.
• The Gophers men's hockey team moved up one spot to No. 2 in the USCHO.com/CSTV rankings after a weekend sweep of Colorado College to open the WCHA season. The University of Maine (6-0-0) was No. 1 with 37 first-place votes. Minnesota (6-1-0) claimed one of the first-place votes. Wisconsin (3-3-2) dropped to No. 5 after losing two road games to Boston College (4-1-0), which moved to No. 3 and picked up two first-place votes.
• The Gophers women's hockey team (4-3-1) dropped from No. 6 to a tie for eighth place with Princeton in the USCHO.com rankings. Minnesota-Duluth (8-0-0) moved up one spot from No. 5 to No. 4, and Wisconsin (9-0-1) stayed in the No. 1 spot.
Briefly: Larry Burt of St. Paul won two events at the Mr. Natural USA Bodybuilding Championships held in Chicago over the weekend. Burt claimed the overall title and the World Natural Bodybuilding Federation Pro Card.
