MUSCLE men and women will be competing in the Herts and Beds Open First Timers Bodybuilding Championships on Saturday.
The event, to be held at the Grove Theatre in Dunstable, will allow beginners to take part in their first bodybuilding contest and gain valuable experience.
Categories for the event include Juniors Under 21, Masters Over 40, First Timers Under 5ft 8ins, First Timers Over 5ft 8ins, Novices Under 5ft 8ins, Novices Over 5ft 8ins, First Timers Ladies’ Figure, First Timers Ladies’ Physique and Overall.
There will be trophy prizes for those who come 1st, 2nd and 3rd in each category.
Mark Etherden, owner of Dunstable Sports Nutrition Centre in Church Street, Dunstable, as well as the Colloseum gym in Leighton Buzzard, is organising the competition.
He explained that it is a great opportunity for those who want to compete in bodybuilding events, but do not feel that they meet the standards of professional competitions.
Mr Etherden described the contest as an entry point and a chance for people to “show off their physique”.
A number of supplement companies will also attend the event, including Applied Nutrition, Pyramid Nutrition, Only Supplements and Multipower Muscle.
They will be handing out free supplements and advice to visitors.
Competitors will also be able to obtain photographs and DVDs of the contest.
Anyone can compete in the event, which has been advertised by posters and flyers distributed across local gyms.
Mr Etherden, who has been in the business for 20 years and has himself taken part in the British Bodybuilding Championships, said that there has been a lot of interest in the contest.
“There are a lot of gyms in the local area and it’s good for the town to hold the event,” he told the Gazette.
The competition is not a qualifier for another contest.
Tickets to watch the event cost £15 in advance and can be obtained from the Grove Theatre ticket office by calling 01582 602080.
