SUTHERLAND'S Victor Dmitriyev, pictured left, came to Sydney from the Ukraine 14 years ago.
Eventually, he became committed to gym training, improving his fitness and bodybuilding.
And on Sunday, in only his second competition, the 98-kilogram dynamo won the heavyweight division of the Australasian Bodybuilding and Fitness Championships at Revesby Workers Club, where a number of other locals contested various divisions.
Dmitriyev later contested the Elite Pro division and finished a creditable third.
''I didn't diet properly in my first comp, the 2005 Mr Australia, so this time I started 14 weeks out - and it paid off,'' said a happy Dmitriyev after a training session at Rockdale's Titan Fitness Centre recently.
''Winning this means so much to me.''
