THE sister of Arsenal striker Theo Walcott has launched a bid to eclipse her brother and become a world champion.
Hollie Walcott, of Compton, is a competitive amateur bodybuilder and has qualified for a national contest after just her third competition.
After coming second in the British Natural Bodybuilding Federation Central Champion-ships in St Albans last month, Miss Walcott has qualified for the British Championships in September.
She said: “All the family have been out to support me, including my brother (Theo) and his girlfriend, my older brother and my mum and dad. They love it and are all coming up to Glasgow for the Championships too.”
The 26-year-old said that she was on a mission to clear up misconceptions about the discipline and show young girls it could be a healthy pursuit to follow.
“I am classed as a female bodybuilder, however I compete in the figure category, which is a more mainstream, acceptable look of a muscular woman. So the emphasis really is on muscle definition and shape, as opposed to monster size,” she said.
After becoming a mother to two children, Sebastian, aged five, and Aurora, aged four, she said that life as a stay-at-home mum left her wanting to do more.
“I can’t put ‘housewife’ on application forms anymore. I’m a full-time mum, part-time athlete,” she said. “I just enjoy it and enjoy the feeling of having something for myself.”
Her rapid success has already opened doors, and despite currently studying to be a personal trainer, she has featured on the Sky Active television channel and said she would love to present her own show.
Like her jet-heeled brother, she said that she was very good at sprinting at an early age and believes a natural athletic ability had helped her to excel, even at such a novice stage of her career.
“I was always athletic and see myself as an athlete. We are a very competitive family,” she said.
Miss Walcott hopes to do as much as she can to get girls interested in fitness and hasn’t ruled out the possibility of going around the schools in the area to speak to youngsters about health and fitness.
“Girls, if they knew more about it they would see the benefits,” she said.
“A lot of young girls today seem keen to get into glamour modelling. I want to show them that this side of bodybuilding can be just as glamorous but also more healthy.”
