House arrest touted for bodybuilderDate: 12.02.2003 Posted by: Anabolic Info Team Canada
A former bodybuilding champion could go to jail for one year for his involvement in trafficking anabolic steroids across Western Canada.
Clinton Stephen Evangelista, 29, pleaded guilty last winter to a string of charges stemming from trafficking, money laundering and tax evasion that were laid after an RCMP investigation into an operation run largely by a group of childhood friends.
During sentencing arguments yesterday, defence lawyer Charlie Stewart asked provincial court Judge Tom McMeekin to consider a 12-month conditional sentence that would allow Evangelista to serve the time under virtual house arrest.
"I'm looking forward to getting on the right track and embracing the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead," said Evangelista, who placed fourth in a national bodybuilding competition in Ottawa in 1994.
