It's two out of two for Authur Kasengezi. Kasengezi retained the Mr Mufakose bodybuilding title after beating a field of 22 contestants, who were drawn from in and around Harare, at Rutendo Hall in Mufakose last Saturday night.
For winning the Mr Mufakose title for the second-year running, Kasengezi, who hails from Harare’s high-density suburb of Dzivarasekwa, walked away with $100 000 and a floating trophy. He will also train at Harare’s Body Fitness Centre for free for a month.
In second place was Abel Chibvuri who collected $50 000. Chibvuri has fallen in love with this annual event and this year he drove all the way from Gweru to take part in the contest and was not disappointed either as he settled for second place — a big improvement from last year where he came third.
Home-crowd favourite Richard Chimi-mba, who was cheered on by a crowd of over 1 000, was placed third and received $15 000.
The Mr Junior Mufakose title was snatched by Tineyi Chikaka who beat Xoudions Kirim and Clyde Mutero into second and third places respectively.
Chikaka of Mufakose received $50 000 while Dzivarasekwa’s Kirim and Mutero of Mufakose walked away with $20 000 and $3 000 for their efforts. Sam Mgubazi of Kuwadzana came a close fourth and received special mention from the judges.
This year’s Mr Mufakose bodybuilding contest was sponsored by Temba "The Guru" Mliswa’s WorldMark Sports International to the tune of $1 million, making it the richest bodybuilding competition in the country.
Mliswa, who is the chief executive officer of WSI, Zimbabwe’s top sports marketing and management agency, was the guest of honour at Saturday’s event and was pleased with the overwhelming response the competition received from the contestants, the Mufakose community and the organisers of the event, the Mufakose Bodybuilding Club.
He expressed his company’s continued support of the event with a view of being a permanent partner of the competition.
Mliswa, however, expressed his disappointment over the no-show by of officials of the Zimbabwe Bodybuilding and Weight-lifting Association at Saturday’s event.
However, former Mr Zimbabwe, Innocent Choga, graced this event and was the chief judge. |
