Jamaica to host bodybuilding event but may not participateDate: 15.09.2006 Posted by: Anabolic Info Team Jamaica
The Jamaica Bodybuilding and Fitness Association, which is slated to host the 34th Central American and Caribbean Championships in three weeks, says it will not pull out despite being faced with some major challenges.
The association is still in need of about $5 million to host the event, with the nation set to face major embarrassment as overseas international federations have all made preparations to attend.
Jamaica accepted the task of hosting the event more than two years ago, but companies have reneged on pledges citing economic hardships due to natural disasters such as hurricanes Ivan and Dennis.
Co-ordinator for the event Carol Taylor, says some commitments have been made, but even if they are fulfilled, the association will still need to raise in excess of $2 million.
