Joel Stubbs vs Jaye Darling for pro card?Date: 27.09.2003 Posted by: Anabolic Info Team Bahamas
The fight for the male bodybuilding professional card this year should be very interesting with Bahamian heavyweight Joel Stubbs and middleweight Jaye Darling frontrunners at the 31st Central American and Caribbean Bodybuilding Championships.
Stubbs dominated the heavyweight field last night at the Wyndham Crystal Palace Resort in terms of size, width, height and the definition was definitely there. He seems to be a shoe-in for the heavyweight title and he's confident.
"I think I really did my part, flexing hard and squeezing and trying to get the gold for The Bahamas. I'm going to rest now and come back (today) to finish it off," he said.
Stubbs who is competing in his fifth and final CAC before he retires says he's giving it his all in his quest for the gold medal.
And his muscles have definitely matured from previous years as he gears up for this final run.
"This is my first time really fighting hard for the gold. The potential was there, now they (muscles) are there, and I'm confident there's nobody out there that can beat me," he said.
With the ballroom at the Wyndham buzzing about him after he stepped onto the stage, Stubbs said if he does get the pro card he will cherish it because winning it is the highlight of CAC, but if he doesn't he would still be fine with it as he retires.
To get the chance to fight for the pro card he will have to first contend with Jamaican Henry Graham and Carmichael Bryan from Barbados who were both impressive.
Once Stubbs beats them he'll then go up against Jaye Darling who he said looked very impressive.
Darling not only looked impressive last night, but says he's psyched because he has a very good chance of pulling off the pro card.
As he got the opportunity to see what his division is offering this year he said he doesn't see much competition and is looking ahead to the overall competition and taking on Stubbs.
"That's a competition I've been looking forward to for awhile now, and I'm ready for him," said Darling. "I'm very confident, and hopefully the judges pick me as a winner," said the CAC veteran who has never lost his division. "But Joel looks pretty good and so does (light heavyweight) Aaron (Green).
Fellow Bahamians competing in the middleweight division with Darling are Anthony Miller and Kevin Watson.
