Kevin muscles in at bodybuildingDate: 14.05.2007 Posted by: Anabolic Info Team Ireland
A PROMISING young Limerick athlete has emerged on the bodybuilding scene.
18 year-old Kevin O’Callaghan, from Castletroy, became champion of the junior division at the Irish Open Bodybuilding Championships, which took place in LIT’s Millennium Theatre.
Performing in front of judges which included Dorian Hayes, six times Mr. Olympia, who flew in from the US, Kevin flexed and posed impressively and said he "was over the moon” with his win.
The event attracted a large crowd of supporters, and local sponsors added some glamour to the proceedings with lavish prizes up for grabs, including a 500 euro watch from Keane’s Jewellers.
Limerick’s Brian Bullman, who himself is six times Irish National Champion, also sat on the judging panel. About O’Callaghan, he said, "he’s definitely one to watch. He’s only 18 and it was his first ever competition. He has a big frame and he’s incredibly dedicated, so he has a lot of potential. Dorian was also well impressed with him”.
Sinead Collins, from Ballina, Killaloe, also made a good impression on the judges and beat off her opponents in the Fitness and Figure category, winning first place.
Brian will, next week, fly to New York for the prestigious New York Body-Building Championships, where he has been invited to sit as a guest judge.
"It’s a huge event and a great honour to be asked to judge it,” he told the Post.
