Larsen to target DubboDate: 12.02.2003 Posted by: Anabolic Info Team Australia
South Australian Jan-Marie Larsen is looking for success in the Dubbo International Bodybuilding Championships on February 22 to launch her assault on state and national titles in upcoming events.
Mother-of-three Larsen, 37, said she has heard good reports about the Dubbo event and is looking forward to her trip interstate.
"My goal is to do well in Dubbo and then move in to state and national titles, so now I am focused and looking forward to competing in Dubbo," she said.
"I've heard good stories of how well the event has been run from my friend, Janelle Mclean who won a title there a while ago.
"I've always been an active sporty type person and have chosen bodybuilding in the end as my sport.
"I feel it's only myself I depend on in the end and it's only myself I let down if I don't put in a 100 per cent and achieve the goals I set."
Larsen will be one of many top liners coming to Dubbo for the championships, co-ordinated again by Ken and Elaine Russell.
The Dubbo RSL Club will again provide the venue with pre-judging from 9.30am on the Saturday morning following by the finals from 6.30pm.
Session costs are $10 for prejudging and $20 for the finals.
Jan-Marie Larsen's keenness to travel to Dubbo is indicative of the type of bodybuilders who are attracted to the city.
She is keen and ambitious and spends plenty of time working out at every opportunity.
"I lived in Whyalla in South Australia however I recently moved to Port Pirie to work and train at a local gym here called Ravelles," she said.
"With my work, training and being a mother for three children aged 18, 12 and 9, it is a fairly hectic lifestyle.
"I first picked up a weight and started aerobics when my eldest son was two-years-old to lose some weight and get my figure back.
"I continued with aerobics but stopped weights until my second son was aged nine months.
"From that time I've been competing and with each competition I feel I'm getting better each time.
"I have now achieved three of my goals: to feel confident, comfortable and enjoy totally being on stage in front of a crowd.
"My first competition was in 1992 at the Pro Hart Outback when I gained a third place and three years later in the Adelaide Physical Classic.
"In 1996 I gained third in figure at the Adelaide Physique Classic and a year later was second in figure at the SA Bodybuilding Championships and the same year third in the Australasian titles.
"After that I took three years off competing in events because of work and family commitments and only trained on and off. But then I got back into the gym and became focused again.
"I got back into competition a year later in 2001 at the Nabba World Qualifier over-35s and gained a second place. Last year I was second again in the same event.
With entries closing on Saturday, promoter Ken Russell is confident of a top class list of male and female competitors, which will ensure a highly entertaining night session.
"For the public the Dubbo championships are all about having fun.The quality of the performers to 'show off' in front of a big crowd is what we are all about," he said.
"The entertainers are the thrill of the show and their relaxed manner is easy to see. Hopefully we will get a good crowd to appreciate these fine athletes.
"The mixed pairs division at the end of the night is one of the real crowd pleasers and you won't find better masters of physique and music eloquence anywhere in the country areas."
Divisions for the women include Masters over 35 years, as well as open physique, figure, under-52kgs and over-52kgs.
For the men there is a first timers division, under-22s, masters, grand masters, under-75kgs, under-85kgs, under-95kgs and over-95kgs. |
