PRIOR to the Mr Border Bodybuilding event held in East London on Sunday, local bodybuilder Louis Bessinger believed he would make an impact. That’s exactly what he did, when he won the International Federal Federation (IFBB) Mr Border Bodybuilding title at the muscle mania event at the Guild Theatre.

Bessinger also known as “Fourigno” had a mountain to climb, despite the absence of last year’s overall winner Lwazi Buso, as he pitted his skills again the 2008 overall champ Edmund Weyer, plus his training partner – the 2008 Mr South SA junior champ Everitt Hand.

Having fallen short last year – at the age of 21 – Bessinger came into the competition showing much more mature and improved muscle development as well as symmetry which impressed the judges.

At the beginning of the event, awards were handed over to Andy and Lyn Ikin for their 28 years of loyal service to the local federation.

Andy was humbled by the award.

“ We were taken by surprise because we felt that being part of the committee we had to give something back to the sport” he said.

He added that this was their second award they’ve received from the federation since 1985. The local federation announced a team for the South African champs in Durban next month.

Team: Matthew Croney, Louis Bessinger, Everitt Hand, Ed Weyer, Natasha Gower, Charmaine van Staaden, Sivuyile Matomela, Siyabulela Vusani, Bongani Manyonya, Hilbert Kick and Alfred Lugongolo.
