Malaysia Not In Favour Of Bodybuilding's Inclusion In Korat GamesDate: 16.05.2007 Posted by: Anabolic Info Team Malaysia
KUALA LUMPUR, May 16 (Bernama) -- The Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) will not support Thailand's proposal to include bodybuilding at the 24th SEA Games in Korat.
Its president Tan Sri Tunku Imran Tuanku Ja'afar said here today that Thailand, as the games host, were keen to list bodybuilding as one of the sports for the biennial Games.
"The SEA Games Federation (SGF) which are the governing body have not decided nor finalised the proposal as it breaches the rules of SGF which require the host country to finalise the list one year before the Games," said Tunku Imran, adding that there would be two argumentative grounds to protest over the inclusion of bodybuilding.
Tunku Imran explained that apart from not complying with the rules and regulations of SGF, the fact that the sport had been tainted by dope scandals did not augur well for its inclusion.
At the Doha Asian Games, nine bodybuilders failed dope tests while controversies were aplenty due to the lack of transparency in judging.
"Anyway, it's already May now and barely six months before the Games to be held on Dec 6 to 15. The request was made by the Thailand Olympic Council at the Asian Olympic Council Conference in Kuwait last month," he said.
Tunku Imran said bodybuilding was a "subjective sport" where results had always been contested by participants.
"Since the last SEA Games in Manila until now, there has not been any drastic change to the judging system which is not transparent," he added. |
