ONLY “out of this world flex-poserscan deny Sazali Abdul Samad and Liaw Teck Leong a golden outing in Doha.
Oh, plus salty and oily food.
A bold statement indeed, but when it came from someone like Milos Sarcev, a professional bodybuilder who everyone wants to snap their photos with at the Athletes’ Village, one must sit up and take no t ic e.
Based on the 5S principle – symmetry, size, shape, separation and striation, the Malaysian duo, according to Sarcev, have little to worry about.
His main concern here remains the fact that as competition dates draw closer, the sumptuous spread provided at the Athletes Village was not palatable, well, not according to their highly regimented diet.
“Looking at their shape at this moment, they will be as lean and dry as they can be and with due respect to the other participants, it will require “out of this world b o dy builders to beat them to the gold, said Sarcev yesterday.
Three-time Mr Universe Sazali is scheduled to take centre-stage tomorrow in the 65kg category, while Teck Leong, a silver medallist in the Busan Games four years ago, aims to go one step further on Saturday in the 85kg group.
When Mailsport bumped into them yesterday, the trio who arrived in Doha via California after a two-week stint at Sarcev’s training centre, had just returned from searching a restaurant that could cater to their needs.
“We need to have specially catered food for these guys because they need to adhere to a super strict and precise diet so close to competition.
“I don’t understand the organisers can provide 400 different dishes but not a single one can be consumed by our bodybuilders. They need to avoid sodium intake and consume the right level of carbohydrates and glycogen to appear lean and dry on competition day.
“We need the right amount of rice, sweet potatoes, oatmeal and chicken cooked in distilled water.
“The best bodybuilder must appear on stage in a totally “u n he a l t hy state because he needs to be dehydrated and has as little body fat in the body as possible.
That’s why I like to tell people that bodybuilding, with due respect to other sports, requires the highest degree of discipline, said Sarcev.
Team manager Ahmad Zawawi Zakaria said the Asian Bodybuilding Federation (ABBF) have promised to look into the food catering issue.
“The organisers Dagoc have promised ABBF to provide a special food section for bodybuilders.
We have also been told that everything has been ensured to provide for a fair competition to avoid controversy and biased judging, said Zawawi.
