Morris comfortable with stage debutDate: 25.02.2003 Posted by: Anabolic Info Team Australia
FOR her first time in a bodybuilding competition Shaye Morris has done well at the 16th Dubbo International Body Building Championships on the weekend.
Morris finished second in the women's over 52kg figure and first in the mixed pairs with Ian Murray.
Morris said she didn't feel uncomfortable on stage despite her inexperience.
"That was my first ever competition,” Morris said.
"I wasn't nervous at all. I just got on stage and did it.”
Murray, who has been competing since 1998, was just as successful finishing second in the men's under 85kg section.
It is through Murray that Morris ventured into bodybuilding and now the duo is proving to be a good team.
"He spotted me in the gym and said I should train with him,” Morris said.
"We've been training together for eight months. We do weights for 1 1/2 hours every day and go for a 10km walk. We also have a very strict diet. You have got to be spot-on with your diet.”
Leading up to a competition their diet becomes even more strict and training more intense.
"We cut back on all fats, we have low carbs but we've got to keep our protein up,” Murray said.
"We might do the same or maybe more training, especially weights to get that definition.”
Each division is judged in three sections, symmetry, compulsory poses and a choreographed routine.
"In symmetry they're looking if your right side is the same size as your left side,” Murray said. "Whether you calves are too big for your thighs, whether your arms are too big for your chest.”
The compulsory poses require entrants to pose in a manner that is most flattering for their bodies and the routine is choreographed to music.
Murray and Morris will next travel to Wagga on March 8 for the International Natural Body Building Association NSW Country Championships where entrants are required to be drug-free for five years.
The championships are the first drug-tested competition of the year where entrants are urine tested and lie-detector tested.
