NATCHEZ — Rock hard abs and bulging biceps take years of training and dieting. Friday devoted fitness and bodybuilding experts will show off their achievements in Natchez.
Bodybuilder, Jackson police officer, and Natchez native James Davis is bringing the Organization of Competitive Bodybuilders Natchez Trace Classic Bodybuilding and Figure Championships, to Natchez.
“I want to put this on because of all the obesity in and diabetes Mississippi,” Davis said.
Although Davis will not be competing in the competition he will be one of the judges at the event.
“There are at least 40 different contestants coming from all over the place,” Davis said.
Dr. David Morgan is 49 years old and has only been bodybuilding for one year.
“I lost 59 pounds since last March,” Morgan said. “I have been training and dieting for this competition since January.”
All the contestants will be separated into different age, weight and gender classes. Women have on additional class to compete in, the figure class, which is more about a healthy toned appearance than a ridged muscular one.
“The winner of each class and the overall winner will be featured in Fitness and Physic magazine,” Davis said. “OCB owns the magazine and will provide coverage of the event.”
Each of the contestants will only have 60 seconds to show the crowd and judges their best routines. Finalists will receive 90 seconds to do their posing.
“The competition is drug free,” Davis said.
All contestants must pay a $40 fee for a mandatory polygraph test and contestants may even be asked to do other tests to make sure the event stays drug free.
“I want to raise the people of Natchez awareness to living healthy,” Davis said.
Davis actually helped Morgan train for this event. Morgan said he learned more about biochemistry since he has been bodybuilding than when he was in medical school.
Those who would like to compete in the event need to register by Thursday.
Anyone who wants to attend the event can purchase tickets for $20 and $10 if under 18 years old. Ticket holders will be allowed to watch the pre-judging at 11:30 a.m. and the finals at 6 p.m. on Friday at the Natchez Convention Center.
