JUST over a month after being crowned the British natural bodybuilding champion, Aylesbury gym owner Tony Montalbano won the world title in Hollywood, recently, writes Damien Lucas.
Montalbano, who owns Bodyflex Gym on Cambridge Street, jetted out to tinsel town in November for a competition that had so far eluded him in his career.
The muscle man had contemplated retiring but, like his hero Sylvester Stallone in the Rocky movies, Montalbano gave the title another shot and finally achieved his lifelong
ambition.
The family man, who has to adhere to a strict diet and training regime in the build up to a competition, said he was looking forward to enjoying some good food again now.
He said: "The team spirit was great and I'm over the moon to have finally achieved my goal.
"This year I have achieved more than I would have ever believed and nothing can top winning the Mike Williams Classic Pro-am.
"It actually beats my accomplishment of winning the finals in 2003.
"I always believed that determination pays and therefore I would win it sooner or later but the pro-am was never even in my thoughts.
"I must admit it is all a bit surreal, I'm so proud to have these titles, I have had an unbelievable year.
"I want to thank my gym members and friends that made me more determined to prove myself this year, now what shall I eat?"
Montalbano was joined in the finals by Mario Gaeta who also enjoyed the experience.
