A MODIFIED training regime helped Sasho Ognenovski win a natural world bodybuilding title after failing to make the top three at his last attempt.
Ognenovski, who trains at Leisuredome Gym at Beverly Hills, won the amateur division of the natural boydybuilding Musclemania world titles in Las Vegas recently.
The win came 12 months after his fifth place in his debut attempt.
"I came in two kilograms heavier," Ognenovski said.
"I improved my body; we started doing deadlifts with dumb-bells and a bit more specific exercises."
Ognenovski said a revamped training regime which included more cardiovascular work helped modify his body.
He weighed in for the 74 kilogram-84 kilogram middleweight limit at 82 kilograms.
"In the off season I had a higher amount of protein to put on muscle," Ognenovski said.
"I trained for nine months before dieting for three."
Ognenovski shed six kilograms in preparation for the tournament.
The former Australasian Natural Bodybuilding Asia Pacific International champion maintained his weight with seven meals daily — highlighted by four servings of fish.
"I've always wanted to win," Ognenovski said.
"I've been watching Musclemania since I was a kid and hoped one day I'd be associated with them.
"Musclemania is the most prestigious natural bodybuilding federation in the world."
The win gave him a professional card — meaning he can compete at three Musclemania events this year.
The first is in Miami in June before Las Vegas and Milan, Italy.
"I'm back in training," Ognenovski said. "I want to build some muscle for the next competition.
"I'll train for a few months putting on quality muscle so I can come in heavier and more improved."
While the Musclemania amateur division did not offer monetary prizes, Ognenovski will now compete for money in the professional division.
Only two people have professional cards in Australia.
