FORMER Barbados international bodybuilder and movie actor Earl Maynard said last year after watching the schoolboys' competition that the future of bodybuilding in Barbados was in good hands.

He was very impressed then with the level of talent on stage at the Lester Vaughan Secondary School hall.

This year, the youngsters are in good hands as far as sponsorship is concerned. The Barbados Amateur Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation has joined with Nature's Discount Nutrition Centre to provide the young bodybuilders with much needed supplements for those taking part in the imminent Mr Teenager contest.

The sponsorship is a big plus for the junior athletes because, along with the muscle-building exercise, they need the dietary foundation to maximise their efforts in the gym.

Competition May 27

The Mr Teenager flexes off at Combermere School, Waterford, St Michael, on May 27 at 6 p.m. The Mr and Ms Bridgetown and Novice Competitions will also be held that evening. From this competition a team will be chosen to represent Barbados at the Eastern Caribbean Championships in Trinidad from July 27 to 29.

The Junior World Championships will be held in Italy later in November and the federation will be sending a team to represent the island.

If the lads who participated in the last Mr Schoolboy contest stay focused and are consistent with their training, the federation should have no problems choosing a team for this competition.

Certainly, schoolboy champ Kemar Hunte of Parkinson Secondary and runner-up Kamal Sealy of Combermere have loads of talent and can go far in the sport.
