Bodybuilder, former centerfold wants to warn others about drugs, unsafe sex
Former Playboy centerfold Rebekka Armstrong will speak at Northern State University's Thunder's Lair on Feb. 15 at 9 p.m.
She is being brought to Northern by NSU's Campus Activities Board.
Armstrong, who was a Playboy centerfold in September 1986, contracted HIV at age 16, when she had unprotected sex with a young man she had met on a summer beach vacation. She tested positive for HIV in 1989. She now tours college campuses discussing HIV and AIDS.
"Armstrong has chosen not to hide her illness, but instead, dedicates herself to helping prevent others from making the same mistake as she did by becoming involved in unsafe sex and drug use," according to a Northern press release.
Armstrong, who turns 40 on Feb. 20, is a competitive bodybuilder, and placed first in the middleweight category of the 2004 Los Angeles Bodybuilding and Figure Championship. She is married to Oliver Luettgenau, a bodybuilder who is also HIV positive. The couple currently lives in Missouri.
A native of Bakersfield, Calif., she remains affiliated with Playboy and is the spokesperson for a program called "Cable Positive." She has been profiled on "E! True Hollywood Stories." |
