Noteworthy: Omahan named strongest woman

Kristin Kennedy, owner of Kennedy Fitness in Omaha, defended her record as the Independent Bodybuilding Powerlifting Association's strongest woman. Kennedy placed first in all three events: bench press, squat and dead lift, lifting 150, 260 and 300 pounds, respectively. These lifts not only earned three first-place trophies, they also were all weight-class national records.

Kyle Emerick was chosen to compete in the third annual Offense-Defense Youth All-American Bowl. Games were scheduled in four age groups. Kyle, 14, competed Friday in the youth All-American Bowl at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas. He is a freshman linebacker for Papillion-La Vista High School who also has competed for the Papillion Spirit Monarch youth football team.

The Douglas County Department of Corrections has promoted four staff members to supervisory positions this month. Carmelita Rogers and David Aldrich were promoted from correctional officer IV to lieutenant. David Moss and Michael Henrichs have been promoted from correctional officer III to sergeant.

Logan White is a college student from Omaha who attends Rice University and is now studying civil engineering at Dublin City University in Ireland. He has been selected by Education in Ireland, an initiative of the Irish government, to be a student ambassador for the program. As such, White is a featured blogger for the program and shares his experiences via Facebook, Twitter and other social media through the spring. Pam Zilly of Lincoln, director of the Nebraska State Patrol Crime Laboratory, was honored as the 2011 Manager of the Year by the Nebraska State Government Chapter of the National Management Association. Secretary of State John Gale presented the award during a ceremony this month at the State Capitol.

Fifty-eight players vied this month for various titles at the Nebraska State Chess Association state championship tournament at Millard South High School. Players competed only against others with the same approximate chess rating. The games are rated by the U.S. Chess Federation. Winners in each section become the state champion. Winners and state champions by class: Class A, Ben Fabrikant of Omaha; Class B, Joseph Cheng-Yue Wan of Lincoln, who is also the 2011 K-3 National Champion; Class D, Tony Benetz of Omaha; Class E, Caravaggio Dante Caniglia of Omaha; Class F, the Rev. Brian Connor of Lincoln; Class G, Miles Russell of Omaha; Class H, Ryan Inman of Omaha; Class I, Christopher Baker II of Omaha; Unrated, Shane Fleming of Omaha.
