A TWO-DAY program based around fitness, including the IFBB Pro Body Building European Championship and the IFBB Pro Fitness European Cup will be held at Debrecen's Fônix Hall this weekend (June 7-8). The FITPARADE program will also include a FITEXPO at the Hodos Imre Hall.
Star guests, including Tímea Majorova, the fitness world's "sexiest athlete" and Dennis James, who is this defending Bodybuilding Show champion, having won in 2001, arrived a week early to fulfill media engagements.
Following three years of preparation, the Hungarian Professional Bodybuilding and Fitness League (Pro League) was founded in March 2000. With the help of the IFBB (International Federation of Body Building and Fitness) the Pro League was set up with the help of Ildiko Buranits, Louie Koncz, Zoltán Kelemen, Péter Serbestyén.
On March 11, 2000 the Pro League organized the Pro Body Building Grand Prix held at the Erkel Theatre in Budapest. It was a huge success, and the international committee gave Hungary the opportunity to organize the first Hungarian Professional Bodybuilding European Championship, a qualifier event for the Mr Olympia contest, the body building world championships.
Only three Grand Prix events are used as qualifiers, the other two being the Ironman in New York and Arnold's Classic in Columbus State.
The European Championship was staged on the March 10, 2001, where some of the sport's biggest stars took part, including Dexter Jackson, Melvin Anthony, JD Dawodu, Chris Cormier and champion Dennis James.
The success of the European Championships was followed by the IFBB Pro Fitness European Cup in November 2001, which was the third competition to be organized by the Pro League, attended by Tímea Majorova, Klaudia Kinska, Stacy Simons, Laura Mak, Cynthia Bridges and deputized by Kriszitna Serényi.
The cost of hosting the Pro Body Building European Championship is $25,000 and $6,000 for the Pro Fitness European Cup. The license to organize both events cost $93,000.
The open competitions held in Debrecen will be the last qualification rounds this year for Fitness Olympia and the Professional World Championship. Hungary will be represented in both fitness and bodybuilding.
Ildikó Kállai, a member of the WESTEL Team, will take part after a long absence and Eszter Óváry - a former Olympic gymnast - will compete for the IFBB Professional title.
István Kiss Horváth, who is a former amateur world champion and Nicu Giurgi, a multiple world champion will also compete in the event.
