Kenya Prisons musclemen will, for the first time, compete in the Mr Mamba bodybuilding championship.
The event is scheduled for Saturday at Mamba Village in Mombasa. Douglas Locho, the 2002 Mr Carnivore flyweight champion, is coaching the team.
Locho, who will feature in the bantamweight category, yesterday said Prisons would be represented by three bodybuilders — Anthony Sogoro (light-heavy), Boniface Orito (middleweight), and himself.
The event is sponsored by Jovet (K) Ltd and starts at 8am with the prejudging while the final is set for 9pm. Registration is Sh150 per person.
Over 45 musclemen have confirmed participation, the organiser of the event, Said Swaleh, said.
"Bodybuilders are anxious to compete since the last such championship was held over two years ago. The revival of Mr Mamba is a boost for bodybuilders," said Swaleh.
"We are out to promote the bodybuilding sport,s which had been hit by wrangles at the expense of sportsmen," said Swaleh.
Swaleh said there was a new crop of bodybuilders who had not been exposed to competitive events due to in-fighting among officials.
Swaleh said winners in the six categories would earn cash awards.
