Prize money for Olympic winners

Every Vietnamese athlete, who wins a gold medal at the upcoming Olympic Games, will get a money prize of VND80 million (US$5,000), according to a decision signed by the Prime Minister.

Breaking a record at the Olympic Games, by any gold medalist, will earn them an additional VND40 million.

As per the same decision, every gold medal winner at the Southeast Asian Games will be awarded VND25 million with a further VND10 million for setting a record.

During the training session in preparation for the big games, each national coach will receive a VND150,000 living allowance per day, while every athlete will receive VND70,000 each day.

Son, Chau progress in chess

International Grand Master Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son has gained 2.5 points following two wins and one draw at the on-going World Youth Chess Championship in Batumi, George.

Son, who plays in the U16 group, achieved crucial wins over Romanian Chirila Ioan Cristian and Lithuanian Mustaps Matiss, to garner new hope of obtaining precious medal at the championship.

He will meet Tologontegin Semetey from Uzberkistan in the 4th game.

Son’s teammate Le Hoang Tran Chau, who is competing in the girls’ U14 group, also scored 2.5 points after two wins and one draw. Chau will play the 4th game against Chinese Yu Hualin.

Lam Dong bodybuilders win golds

The Central Highlands Province of Lam Dong pulled their weight after bagging eight gold medals, taking the crown at the National Bodybuilding Clubs Championship in Da Nang on Sunday.

Dong Nai came in second with six gold, five silver and three bronze medals, ahead of Binh Duong, who placed third with three gold, two silver and one bronze medals.

The championship showcased 30 athletes nationwide, baring their brawn in five categories including singles, doubles and team events.
