Q: What is your most memorable moment in sport?
My most memorable moment is last Saturday -- the day of the recent 2006 Guam bodybuilding competition. It has always been that one sport that I wanted to try but never had the time, commitment or opportunity -- not to mention, I am a bit shy in front of large crowds. Up until the moment I was called to perform, I wasn't sure if I would follow through. But in a matter of seconds after I hit my first pose, the fear vanished. And I knew I had overcome an obstacle that stifled me in the past from competing. Memorable, yes, not only did I overcome a fear but I embraced confidence and accumulated an even greater interest in competing again and excelling in bodybuilding.
Q:Who is your all-time favorite coach?
I have many, including Jonathan Rossetti, weightlifting trainer; Jeffrey Hoffman, high school basketball coach; Angela Andersen, high school track and field coach; and in bodybuilding, it's Tony "shut-up-and-eat-the-chicken" Morrison. He was my primary nutrition expert. There are many more but the individuals I've named influenced the foundation of everything else in my life because they saw past the sport and trained the person.
Q:Who is your all-time favorite teammate?
Francine St. Pierre, Los Angeles Storm, our Air Force women's basketball team. She has great sportsmanship -- she's funny and could work her way through the center for two and a foul shot.
Q:Who is the opponent you respect the most?
The one who is confident but humble.
Q:What is your all-time favorite book or movie about
sports? Tell us why.
It's a movie called "Glory Road" -- an autobiographical recap of the Texas Western coach Don Haskins, who led the first all-black starting lineup for a college basketball team to the NCAA national championship in 1966. I loved this movie because it showed how commitment, dedication and heart persevered over racism. It also portrayed how sports relationships can change an individual's attitude and instill loyalty and commitment. I believe being part of a team helps strengthens your character. Yes, I cried because if was about life, living and overcoming fears of the unknown. Two thumbs up for the movie.
Q:What kind of meal do you enjoy after playing sports or working out?
Lately, protein shakes, chicken and sweet potatoes. Twelve weeks ago, it was meat lovers' pizza and french fries.
Q:What do you enjoy most about sports and recreation on Guam?
The camaraderie and friendships that develop from sports interactions are priceless here. You feel as if you're part of someone's family, and are always welcome.
Q:What do you dislike most about sports and recreation on Guam?
I would love to see more female sports for middle-age women. I believe if this should develop, it would give them an opportunity to relieve stress, maintain a healthier lifestyle and bond with others who have the same interest.
