KOTA KINABALU, July 9 (Bernama) -- Sabah will host the 38th National Bodybuilding Championship from July 25-29.
Between 180 and 200 bodybuilders from throughout the country will vie for honours in 12 categories in the championship organised by the Kota Kinabalu City Hall (KKCH), Sabah Amateur Bodybuilding Association and Malaysia Bodybuilding Federation, said KKCH director-general Dr Chua Kim Hing.
All states except for Pahang and Negeri Sembilan have confirmed their participation along with Labuan Federal Territory, police and armed forces, he told reporters here today.
The categories are junior (below 70kg), junior (70kg and above), master, light flyweight, bantamweight, lightweight, welterweight, light middleweight, middleweight, light heavyweight and heavyweight.
Dr Chua, who is also the championship's deputy chairman, said Sazali Samad who was hailed as Mr Universe in 2001, 2003 and 2006 was invited to flex his muscles at the championship hosted by Sabah for the fourth time.
The championship's joint chairman, Anthony Basil Leong who is also the Sabah Amateur Bodybuilding Association president said police who ware defending their title after clinching four gold medals in last year's championship in Penang would be coming in full force.
He said the armed forces and Kuala Lumpur are expected to give police a tough fight.
On the other hand, he said Sabah is banking their hopes on Henro Lee in lightweight category to lift a gold medal.
