Schwarzenegger still the star at fitness showDate: 05.03.2007 Posted by: Anabolic Info Team Turkey
It was the police dog that let the cat out of the bag. Once the German shepherd started sniffing pant legs at the Columbus Convention Center, everyone knew Arnold Schwarzenegger was in the building.
Before bodyguards and bodybuilders could clear a path for the most famous fitness-icon-turned-politician in the world, the public address system boomed to life.
"Ladies and gentlemen, let's welcome back California Governor Arrrrnoooooold Schwarzenegger!" the announcer bellowed to some 4,000 spectators at the Arnold Sports Festival on Saturday, interrupting arm wrestling finalists in mid-fight.
Fans craned to see Schwarzenegger take the stage at the 19th annual bodybuilding and sports extravaganza to thank everyone for coming and urge them, in classic Schwarzenegger style, to return soon.
"Every time you're walking out of this hall, you're saying: 'I'll be back,'" Schwarzenegger said, echoing the famous line from his action movies.
The crowd roared approval.
Jumbo television screens showed Schwarzenegger, in a black and gold festival jacket, cheer on two grimacing arm-wrestlers before making his way through a crush of fans to the massive fitness expo, still using a cane after injuring himself in a December skiing accident.
"I saw him -- from afar," said Laurie Holman, an avid exerciser and retail manager.
