Teen bodybuilder strikes goldDate: 26.05.2007 Posted by: Anabolic Info Team United Kingdom
Teenager Juliann Shattock beat off strong competition to be named junior winner of a regional bodybuilding competition.
And now he is preparing for the National Physique Association (NPA) British finals with a strict diet of turkey breast and rice cakes.
Juliann, 19, of Chatsworth Street, Barnes, first got into bodybuilding when he was 16 after becoming tired of his skinny frame.
And with help from staff at the Marine House Gym in Fulwell and a strict diet regime, he has built up his physique and decided to compete for the first time in the NPA Yorkshire Championships.
The City of Sunderland College student said: "I've been training for the competition since October. I used to weigh 141 stone and I had to lose three stone for the show.
"All I ate was turkey breast and rice cakes, never ketchup or anything.
It was really hard, but it was worth it. I just entered the competition because I enjoy bodybuilding, I never thought I would win."
To win the regional round of the competition, Juliann and the other contenders had to strike eight poses in order to show who had the most muscle and the least body fat.
Juliann won the judges' votes with his versions of the Most Muscle pose and the Front Double Biceps pose, and now goes on to compete in the national finals in Coventry in October.
After celebrating with a slap-up meal at the Panda Chinese restaurant in Sunderland, Juliann will have to go back to eating poultry and crackers.
He said: "I've got to start training again next week. It's going to be tough – I'm really going to miss my mum's cooking.
"I'd like to thank everyone at the Marine House gym because they helped me a lot and gave me advice. Everyone there is really great."
