The body as a work of artDate: 14.08.2004 Posted by: Anabolic Info Team South Africa
Q: You have been a boxer, an actor and a body builder. What did you really want to be when you were young?A: I wanted to be a superhero, something like Superman. Q: Tell me about your new book. A: Many people go to the gym but are not sure what to do. My book gives visual instructions on how to perform each exercise, what to eat and what supplements to use. I reach out especially to youngsters, informing them about the dangers and consequences of drug use. I motivate people to excel in all sports, without using banned or performance-enhancing drugs. A 23-year-old youngster, whom I thought I knew very well, died of a drug overdose. He had everything going for him. God gives us only one body that we have to use for a lifetime. We should respect ourselves enough to live as healthily as possible to promote longevity. Q: What's the most important lesson that bodybuilding has taught you? A: To achieve any goal in life, one needs the 3 Ds: Direction, Discipline and Dedication. If you have integrity, you won't look for quick fixes or cheat. Q: What's the highlight of your bodybuilding career? A: Winning the Mr South Africa Bodybuilding Championships and coming third in my first international competition. Q: What's been your most embarrassing moment? A: I was taking part in the Mr Sunnyside competition when Ashley Hayden of M-Net asked me a question. I had a complete mental block and could not answer for a few seconds. Q: What are your short-term goals? A: To reach out to as many people as possible from all walks of life, educating them and helping them to help themselves. Q: What are your long-term goals? A: To set an example to my sons and all youngsters, male and female, in achieving the ultimate body shape without the use of drugs. Q: Who would you like to meet and why? A: Nelson Mandela. I think he is the most humble, forgiving man and he leads by example. He is never worried about self-gain. Q: Describe your ideal partner. A: My wife. We have been married for 14 years. We share the same taste in music, Latin [American] dancing and movies. We both belong to the church choir and she has always shared my passion for bodybuilding. Q: Who is your role model? A: Bodybuilder Reg Park. I always admired his physique and his ability to build muscle without using drugs. He trained me for two years and got me in the best shape of my life. Q: Which famous person do you find sexy? A: Hollywood actress Halle Berry. Q: What do you think can make the world a better place? A: Respect for humanity, respect for ourselves and making God a big part our lives. Q: What's the one thing you can't do without? A: My wife and food. Q: What's your motto in life? A: To live each day as if it was my last.
