Two bodybuilders fail drug testsDate: 25.11.2003 Posted by: Anabolic Info Team Pakistan
Two Singaporean bodbybuilders who were tipped to win medals at next month’s Southeast Asian Games have been dropped from the national team after failing drug tests, local media reported Tuesday.
Nor Perwiira Jaya Rahmat, 34, tested positive for the diuretic furosemide in September and is serving a two-year ban imposed by the International Federation of Bodybuilders that started on October 16, the Straits Times said. Stablemate Edwin Tan, 31, tested positive for 19-norandrosterone, an anabolic agent that indicates steroid use, on November 5 and will face a Singapore National Olympic Council committee of inquiry hearing on Thursday.
The Straits Times said Tan had only returned to competition in July after serving a two-year ban for taking anabolic steroids. The daily said the pair had been expected to win medals at the SEA Games, which will run from December 5 to 14 in Vietnam. “This is a sad day for bodybuilding,” Singapore Bodybuilders’ Federation president Paul Chua told the paper. “They have been good boys, good athletes training hard for the games. I really don’t know why they resort to this.”
