Ubitau chases Games spotDate: 16.02.2007 Posted by: Anabolic Info Team Fiji Islands
Mr Junior Fiji, William Ubitau is now confident of moving up the ranks to secure a spot in the Fiji squad to the South Pacific Games in Samoa this August.
The 21-year-old Lakeba man clinched the title during the Fiji Bodybuilding Mr Fiji contest at the Hotel Kennedy Gym in Nadi last December.
"I was confident because I had been working my way up slowly and believe that hard work does pays," Ubitau said.
"I spent about three weeks of training with the Mr San Francisco, Ako a Tongan national I met at the gym and this really helped me a lot in the first trial."
Ubitau took up bodybuilding seriously in December 2005 when he was a member of the Star Amusement Fitness Gym in Suva.
"After being a follower of the sport, I decided to take it up and was impressed at how fast progressed in bodybuilding," he said. "It's not easy to become a body builder. You have to be careful of your diet and it takes a lot of hard work to reach this level and you have dedication and commitment," he said.
Ubitau is now a member of the Hyundai Fitness Centre, where he works as a trainer.
"Being a personal trainer on a full time basis has helped me in my build-up preparation," he said.
In addition Ubitau said reading bodybuilding magazines and proper diet was a key to his rising success.
He first participated in the Mr Fiji competition at the Lami Lodge in 2005 and won his first placing at the Mr Suva competition last year prior to the Mr Fiji contest in the 85kg category.
Ubitau now looks forward to the next build-up competition, which services as the second trials at the Hotel Kennedy Gym on February 24.
Bodybuilding Fiji failed to win a medal at the last SPG in Suva and local enthusiasts like Ubitau will be out trying to outmuscle the region's powerhouses Tahiti, New Caledonia and Papua New Guinea.
