Victims Parents File LawsuitDate: 30.05.2003 Posted by: Anabolic Info Team United States
It’s been less than a year since a Lincoln Teenager Sean Riggins died after taking a drug containing the herbal dietary supplement Ephedra.
Since then, Sean's parents have made big strides in raising awareness about the drug.
Thursday, they took one more leap.
Kevin and Debbie Riggins have been instrumental in getting Ephedra off store shelves in Illinois.
The state just passed a law banning the supplement, and now the Riggins are going one step further.
With his lawyers by his side Kevin Riggins made his way through the Logan County Courthouse with one goal: to file a lawsuit against N.V.E. Pharmaceuticals, the company that makes the drug believed to have played a part in Sean’s death.
The Riggins’ are looking to ban Ephedra nation-wide, in hopes of sparing another family from the same loss.
“We’ll never get over it, but it does help to know we are helping other people. That’s the whole drive behind this, to make sure we don't have another family that to deal with what we've dealt with,” said Kevin Riggins, Sean’s father.
Riggin's lawyer, Ron Brown says lawsuits like this will help to discourage drug companies from making the supplements.
He says these companies are only out to make money, and this is a way to hit them where it hurts most.
